Immigration Officers are responsible for screening foreign nationals entering the US territory, allowing them to take residence, ordering the detention of over-staying or unauthorized immigrants, and filing cases for deportation.  They can also be assigned in consulates in other countries and be tasked to assist the embassy in processing VISA applications if required.

* Determine eligibility of foreigners seeking entry to the US by checking travel and identification documents against US Immigration Databases
* Provide advance documents checks for commercial airline passengers with advance manifests forwarded to the bureau operations at the airport
* Interrogate nations with suspicious travel documents or those that don’t match the bureau’s database.
* Alert Homeland Security Agents about aliens suspected of terrorist activities
* Search and apprehend persons presumed to be in violation of current immigration laws and initiate deportation proceedings as necessary


Received commendations from the Department since 2007 for successful immigration work that prevented more than 10,000 illegal aliens from entering the US continental territory
